i wish i could sit here and tell you this isn’t how it ends is a collection of intuitive research, photography, stories, and paintings compiled from the grounds of Sint Catharinakerkhof in Eindhoven, NL. The collection of over 100 double-sided cards explores the questions,
“What does a burial site communicate?”
“How does a cemetery preserve the essence of its inhabitants?”
and
“Is there a way to avoid that second death of being forgotten?”
i wish i could sit here and tell you this isn’t how it ends functions as compiled impressions of a cemetery foreign to the researcher, who acts as a complete stranger in this environment. The project contains notes on sounds, textures, and smells present on the property, theories and speculative narratives of the lives of those buried within, and a large body of film photography documenting the different plots and sights in the cemetery.
