an exercise in decluttering of the mind and life. relics of a storied and difficult childhood paper the walls of my bedroom. i’m surrounded on all sides. best to leave it all behind and start fresh. not enough room in the suitcase for all those silly letters. i’ll carry it with me either way. this is a mobile to hypnotize the child who didn’t know what was to come, and to whisk him off to dreams of a life where none of it matters anymore. this piece is childish, petty, and oh, so cathartic. tear it all up, burn it to the ground, and remember how it felt as the weight lifted off your shoulders.
while i was making this, a man i once loved asked whether he might one day end up as a torn up letter too. i said probably.
i was right.
fittingly, the mobile was lost in storage soon after it served its purpose.
