    Benji Sheppard, Design Academy Eindhoven 2026 graduate, multimedia designer and storyteller from St. Augustine, Florida, creates work influenced by experiences in the conservative South, religious deconstruction, and class division.     stygian hive

    a festival lantern inspired by typophobia, beehives, and undersea wrecks. named after the river styx from greek mythology. a guiding light through the underworld.



    the structure of the sculpture is provided by a trashed antique lantern, with additional extremeties sculpted with a combination of wire mesh, edible rice paper, and a clay-like material formulated from paper pulp and cardboard soaked in black tea, wood glue, and additional chemical adhesives and kneaded until it held its own shape.
