a hand-sewn frankenstein monster visualizes the importance of solidarity in talk therapy sessions.
the performance aspect of this project involved the visceral tearing apart of the frankenstein-ed therapist, and the use of its skin as my own - serving as a representation of solidarity and embodiment in the healing process. as a foreigner in a country that is not my own, I find it difficult to explain my experiences to therapists or even friends here. with my therapy creature, i visualized my own scars and wear and tear and projected it onto a therapist. the gory act of crawling into the skin of one’s healer signifies the psychological toll that is taken on by a therapist and also the necessity of lived experiences in order to truly help begin to heal.
